Mesón Ducal-La Tahona
General information
This 16th century building is located in Virgen Street. Known as the Mesón del Duque, it was built around 1580 by the Duke of Medina Sidonia to provide accommodation for merchants who came to buy tuna from the tuna trap.
Throughout its history it was an inn, a grocery shop, a tavern, a bakery and a neighbourhood courtyard, and belonged to the ducal house until 1875.
It has recently been completely refurbished, with the front of the original building remaining, where the coat of arms of the boilers can be seen, which the dukes used to place on their smaller properties. It has been listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1949.
Nowadays, it can be visited free of charge and it is an ideal artistic enclave for taking photographs thanks to the picture that is created by the colourful flowerpots that stand out against the white walls.
